To present Kassel's cultural offerings during the documenta exhibitions, temporary web platforms have been created by the city of Kassel every five years since 2002. Each of these has been designed and implemented by Machbar. After documenta fifteen in 2022, the decision has now been taken to make this a permanent offering, also to be realized by Machbar.
Every five years, the international art and culture scene looks to Kassel when the documenta attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and defines the worldwide discourse on contemporary art.
Culture in Kassel - during documenta exhibitions, this also included hundreds of concerts, performances, readings and exhibitions, some of which were specially developed for the documenta's supporting program. These were advertised under the "KasselKultur" label. Initially in book form, and later in a purely digital presentation.
The modular concept of the KasselKultur2022 platform provides a flexible framework for a wide variety of events, genres and formats. And after the documenta year 2022, it has been transformed into an umbrella brand without the limitation of any particular year.
Kassel Kultur has established itself as the central digital communication platform for the city's cultural scene. A seamlessly maintained database of event organizers and dates, as well as accompanying social media posts, ensure that even lesser-known offerings receive the attention they deserve.
The transition to a permanent brand is also visually anchored: Whereas logo shapes were used as motif templates for KasselKultur2022, they now serve as disruptive or supporting elements. By retaining the display font, the established typographic look has been maintained.
